Featured Business | Dolly Packaging

Dolly Packaging located on N 4th Street in Tipp City, is a valued business member of the Tippecanoe Historical Society. Company President Mike Tolle, one of nine children, grew up in North Dayton and has become an enthusiastic booster for the Tipp City community. Describing himself as picky, Mike has valued quality, cleanliness and honesty throughout his business career. Mike is fortunate to have his son Nathan and daughter Erin working in sales for the family-owned business, as well as the support of valued employees Travis Hoening in operations and Melanie Upton in accounting. Mike's family orientation shows in the regard he holds his employees, both permanent and temporary.

A born salesman, Mike spent years in the medical packaging industry. Mike became acquaintedwith Tipp City natives Jim and Becky Shepherd Mohr through Dayton Paper Products. The partnership transitioned out of labeling into packaging with the creation of Pak-It which operated for years out of a 20,000 foot facility on 6th Street. After Jim's death, Mike worked with Becky and her second husband, Marty Brown at Pak-It. The business prospered with such customers as GM, Delco Moraine and the Dolly Toy Company.

A natural entrepreneur Mike was ready to go out on his own. When the old Dolly Toy property was listed for auction after sitting empty for four years, he was intrigued with the possibilities of developing a business there. Going to the auction with a definite limit in mind, Mike was more than a little surprised when the auction ended at exactly that amount and he was the new owner of the aging Dolly property. Someone with a can-do spirit, Mike spent the summer personally glazing and replacing windows and painting the building. In September 2011, Dolly Packaging opened for business and today the former Dolly Toy property is an attractive, airy, and spacious showplace. The office features artwork by Mike's late sister, a gifted artist. In the future, Mike hopes to transform the third floor into a banquet hall. At present he is actively seeking additional space for his company's expansion.

Dolly Packaging builds display cases for well-known companies like Oscar Mayer, Nivea and Formica. Shrink wrapping is a company specialty. One interesting Dolly customer is Udecx who manufactures and sells 10 x 10 do-it-yourself patio kits. Udecx management operates out of the Dolly Packaging building. Mike has also provided space at Dolly Packaging for the benefit of Tipp City organizations such as the historical society. As company president Mike Tolle says, "Tipp City has been good to me and I want to pay Tipp City back."

Besides producing quality products and services, offering employment opportunities with benefits and a family atmosphere, Dolly Packaging has preserved and upgraded a valued Tipp City property. With the optimistic leadership of Dolly Packaging, the company's future seems bright and likely to remain an asset for our community.Dolly Packaging
